Fuels

Choosing the right fuel is crucial for the efficient and environmentally friendly operation of wood firing systems. Depending on the type of system, production residues from wood processing, wood chips, wood pellets and chip briquettes are used. Good quality, a low water content and the right grain size are important. Dry and untreated wood materials ensure a clean combustion process, high efficiency and low emissions.

Underfeed firing is particularly recommended for fuels that are uniform in composition and contain little combustion residue, e.g. residues of untreated wood (chips from woodworking or processing).

In addition to the usual dry and low-ash fuels, the moving grate firing system is also suitable for high-ash and moist fuels with a high water content, and is particularly suitable for wood-based materials or fuels with a high bark content, as well as fuels with an increased tendency to slag.

Wood chips are fine, shredded wood residues that can be used as fuel. They are produced during wood processing and have a high energy density. Wood chips are a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels. With their high calorific power and sustainable origin, wood chips offer a cost-effective and climate-friendly alternative for combustion systems.

wood chips

Wood chips are shredded pieces of wood and are produced from residual wood from forests, sawn timber from landscape conservation or waste wood from the sawmill industry. Wood chips are inexpensive and can be easily stored and automatically fed into the biomass firing system via screw conveyors. They are ideal for large heating systems and for district heating.

Pellets_877 x 620

Pellets are small, cylindrical fuels made from pressed wood residues. Used in pellet boilers and heating systems in particular, they are easy to store and handle. With a high calorific value and made from renewable raw materials, pellets offer a sustainable and cost-effective heating solution.

Brikett-rund_877 x 620

Chip briquettes are pressed wood chips that are moulded into solid cylinders for use as fuel. They offer high energy density and clean combustion. Chip briquettes are made from wood waste that would otherwise remain unused.

Wood-based materials

Wood-based materials are materials that consist of wood residues such as shavings, sawdust or cut-off pieces produced during wood processing. These residues are further processed in the form of boards, veneers or other products. Wood-based materials must not be used as fuel in private stoves, as the emission of pollutants is very high due to the varnishing, coating or gluing. With our Nolting wood firing systems, however, this is possible for businesses without hesitation.

Waste wood consists of used wood materials such as furniture, wood waste or construction timber. After processing, it can be used as fuel and provides a sustainable source of energy. Our combustion systems are therefore ideal for businesses that produce waste wood.
